Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907

Posted by Jim Rector on June 29, 2011

‘In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.’

-Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Spanking your kids can send you to jail!

Posted by Jim Rector on June 20, 2011

Ok, so this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in the last few days. A Corpus Christi judge and prosecutors made it clear that they will no longer tolerate what has been an acceptable and long-standing practice, spanking your kids! Police arrested the subject of the article for “Injury to a child,” related to spanking of her daughter. I’ll let you read the article, Local Mother Sentenced For Spanking, for the particulars.

The most asinine comment came from Judge Jose Longoria, “You don’t spank children today," said Longoria, "in the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don’t spank children. You understand?". What?!! Now just who does he think he is re-writing law based on he own felt beliefs? Folks these are the kind of activist judges that should be sought out and removed from office by whatever means possible. They need to know that they can only rule based on LAW not FEELINGS.

Texas law clearly states, “Texas law allows the use of force, but not deadly force, against a child by the child’s parent, guardian, or other person who is acting in loco parentis. Most parents do, in fact, use corporal punishment (in the form of spanking) at least occasionally, and most do not, in fact, consider it abusive.”

The judge and prosecutors in this case are clearly outside current Texas law and long acceptable practice.

Healthcare links – {2/1/11}

A few links about yesterday’s healthcare ruling with a few editorial comments thrown in.

A judicial drubbing for Obamacare
The “smartest” administration ever knew it wasn’t Constitutional. Scary and sad thing is they just don’t care.

See, they just don’t care. Why let the Constitution get in the way. One notch below dictator.

Gun control utopia?

Posted by Jim Rector on January 24, 2011

Often when discussing civilian possession of firearms the gun control advocates will get this smug look on their face and ask “What if we really could get rid of every firearm from the planet in the hands of the general populace? Wouldn’t that be desirable? Wouldn’t be a firearm free utopia?” They really think that they have asked the winning question in the argument that support efforts to eradicate private gun ownership.

First off it’s a hypothetical that will never happen. Criminals simply will not give up their guns just because there’s a law against it. I will say with 100% confidence that there will NEVER be a day in the future when ALL guns will be removed from the face of the earth for all but law enforcement. Unless of course, they come up with something better like a “death ray” or debilitating electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) weapon. I’ll be the first in line for one of those.

But I’ll humor my gun control advocate friends and stipulate to an exercise in thinking through a world without private ownership of self-defense firearms. What if we knew that predatory criminals had absolutely no access to firearms. Surely I would be all for that right? Surely there would be less violent crimes and deaths from such wouldn’t there? Well, not hardly. In fact, violent crime against the weaker in society would skyrocket. The personal protection firearm is the great equalizer. Image you’re a 105 lb woman. Or you have a 105 lb daughter and you or she is attacked by a 250 body building rapist. What chance is there to defend against such an attack in an hand-to-hand situation? Almost zero. These predators would prey at will on women everywhere if they knew for a fact that none of them were armed. What about the crazed drug addict attacking any individual, man or woman? The only way to stop them is to inflict massive vital organ injury. The best way to do that is fill them with holes. Or how about the three gang bangers that kick in your front door for a home invasion wielding baseball bats? With out an “equalizer” your simply a victim. Hopefully not a dead victim. Ask criminals everywhere what they fear. It’s not so much the police, jail, or fear of getting caught as it is the armed potential victim.

Disarmed utopia? Nope. I want as many armed and carrying law-abiding citizens as possible. The more there are, the safer I’ll feel. The more friendly our society will be. Just in case you still don’t get what I’m saying I’ll leave you with a visual aid.

Quotes ‘n stuff – {1/14/11}

Posted by Jim Rector on January 14, 2011

“Sarah Palin’s "blood libel" is a career ender, but Barack Obama’s 20-year embrace of Jeremiah ‘G.D America’ Wright was manifestly not?” – Mark Finkelstein, Newsbusters.org

"What I wanted to know was the killer’s surname….My eyes scanned the mobile papers. I held my breath. Finally, I saw it: Jared Loughner. Not a Ramirez, Gonzalez or Garcia….It’s safe to say there was a collective sigh of brown relief when the Tucson killer turned out to be a gringo." – Daisy Hernandez, NPR

“The so-called ‘news’ media have zero currency in this debate because we have documented the Left using hateful, vicious language far worse than any conservative. Their attacks on conservatives are untrue and utterly hypocritical. If they really cared about the effects of political rhetoric, they would have gone after any number of those left-wingers who have directly incited violence – starting with the man with the world’s biggest audience: President Obama. After all, he did say, ‘If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.’” – Brent Bozell, MRC President

“Absolutely. In fact, I understand there’ been a bill introduced that has a 1000 foot barrier around an elected official so people couldn’t bring guns. If I were still in Congress, I would welcome and urge those that have license to carry, to come to my town meetings. I’d feel more safe having them there, rather than shutting them out and letting some crazy come in and, and, and shoot up the place.” – Tom Delay in responding to Matt Lauer’s question if he still feels the same way about gun control

“The problem for Kerry here is that two years ago, Joe, he did not talk like that when he was undergoing a blood libel by the Swift Boat people. If he had stood up two years ago, in July of 2004, and looked into the cameras with the same intensity he showed today on this issue and said, Hey, I didn`t see Dick Cheney on the bow of my boat in the Mekong Delta, we might have a different president today. That didn`t happen then, and so he`s playing catch-up in terms of his reputation now.” – MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle, 10/31/2006 (No hooting and hollering about racism when he made that comment.)
